Car Break-Ins

Several neighbors have reported that their cars were broken into over the last few months. One couple on Dixie was hit twice in six months! Please remember to remove or hide any valuables from your vehicle that might attract someone’s eye such as purses, cell phones, CD’s. And always be sure to lock your car doors.  Most of the break-ins occurred in the middle of the night, and in some instances, the car was locked, but the window was smashed. Of course, if you hear or see anything suspicious in the middle of the night, call the police and let the Board know right away. Help keep our neighborhood safe!

This page is intended to keep our neighbors up-to-date on crime events in and around the neighborhood. Though crime is relatively uncommon in our neighborhood, it is always best to exercise appropriate precautions to stay safe.

CRIME ALERT

Catalytic converter stolen from car

This past Monday around 2:00 a.m., one of our neighbors on Dixie Drive had the catalytic converter stolen from their vehicle. The catalytic converter is part of an automobile's exhaust system, designed to reduce gasoline emissions. The converters contain platinum, a precious metal that may serve as a motive in thefts. The thief used a torch-saw and cut it out from the car while it was parked right in front of their home. The neighbor reported this to the police and was told that this is a common occurrence and the police department even has a special department to handle these cases.

The SHIA Board is requesting additional information from the Baltimore County Police, and we also are hoping to have a representative from the department at our upcoming annual picnic/meeting to discuss this and a few other safety/crime related topics.

In the mean time, please be alert, and report any suspicious activity to the police.
